Pillar Candle Care and Burning Instructions

Before Lighting

Place your pillar candle on a flat, heat-safe surface away from drafts, flammable objects, and direct sunlight. Ensure the candle is free from dust or debris and trim the wick to approximately 5mm before lighting. This helps create a steady flame and reduces smoking.

First Burn

On the first burn, allow the candle to burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way across the surface until it is approximately 1 cm from the edge. This is especially important for pillar candles, as it helps prevent tunnelling and ensures an even, longer-lasting burn. This time frame can be variable depending on the size of the candle and conditions, so it is important to keep a close eye on the candle.

During Use

Always keep the wick trimmed to around 5mm before each lighting. Let the candle burn for no longer than 3–4 hours at a time to maintain the integrity of the wax and wick. If the flame becomes too large or starts to smoke, extinguish the candle, let it cool, trim the wick, and relight. Avoid moving the candle while it is burning or while the wax is molten. Make sure the wax pool remains free of debris.

Burning Safely

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep out of reach of children and pets, and avoid placing near open windows, vents, or fans where drafts may cause uneven burning or dripping.

Extinguishing the Candle

To extinguish, we recommend using a candle snuffer or wick dipper. Avoid using water, as this can cause wax splatter or damage the candle. Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting or moving.

When the Candle Is Finished

Discontinue use when approximately 10–15mm of wax remains. Burning beyond this point may cause excess heat and could damage surfaces. Once fully cooled, dispose of any remaining wax.
